Tepamanhene explains why Daddy Lumba’s funeral will take place after Otumfuo’s Great Oath case

The Tepamanhene, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem II, has addressed the recent discussions surrounding the final funeral rites of Ghanaian highlife icon Daddy Lumba.

During an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz with Empress Gifty, he stated that the funeral rites can only proceed after a traditional hearing is held regarding the invocation of Otumfuo’s Great Oath (Ntam Kɛseɛ) by one of the musician’s sisters, Ernestina Fosuh.

According to Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem II, once the Ntam Kɛseɛ is invoked in such a situation, the funeral cannot move forward until the matter is heard and resolved by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, or by a chief delegated to oversee the case.

He explained that invoking the Great Oath, especially when it concerns uncovering the truth, requires all involved parties to appear before Otumfuo or his representative so that the facts can be properly established.

When asked whether the chief of Daddy Lumba’s hometown could handle the issue, the Tepamanhene firmly dismissed the idea, stressing that it falls outside the local chief’s authority once Otumfuo’s Great Oath has been declared.

However, he added that if the hometown chief petitions Otumfuo and the Asantehene deems it suitable, he may authorize the local settlement of the dispute under his supervision.

Addressing how long the process might take, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem II assured that the matter could be concluded swiftly once the proper summons and proceedings are initiated.
