Controversial Ghanaian social media personality Young Don has been at the center of a heated online debate after publicly claiming he was seriously ill following a car accident in the United States. According to his own account, he suffered a severe leg injury in the crash and was later told by doctors that he might need his leg amputated if he did not undergo urgent surgery a situation he said left him bankrupt and struggling for his life while stranded in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In viral TikTok videos, Young Don appealed to Ghanaians for financial support, warning that he could die without help and detailing how his health woes had drained his savings. He also made a dramatic plea to prominent Ghanaians, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for sympathy and backing as he fought his deteriorating condition.
However, the narrative took a controversial turn when a UK-based relative publicly challenged Young Don’s version of events. In a separate TikTok live session, the family member dismissed the claim that he was seriously sick, instead suggesting that his plight was exaggerated and driven by financial motives. The relative alleged that Young Don had been deported from the US and moved to South Africa, where he struggled and needed money simply to leave the country, not necessarily for urgent medical care.
The relative also said Young Don had previously received financial support from family after his deportation but had spent it on himself and his partner, contributing to his current predicament.
The conflicting accounts have stirred heated reactions on social media, with supporters urging compassion and others demanding transparency and proof of his medical condition.
