Nigeria’s Ruling Party Endorses President Tinubu for 2027 Re-Election

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election, signaling strong party support ahead of the next general poll.

The endorsement was announced during an APC summit in Abuja, the nation’s capital, where party leaders expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and reforms. Tinubu, who won the presidency in the 2023 general election, is now positioned to seek a second and final term in the 2027 race, as permitted under Nigeria’s constitution.

At the party’s meeting, members cited Tinubu’s economic policies, including ending the fuel subsidy and liberalising the foreign exchange regime, as reasons for backing his continued leadership. Supporters say these reforms have helped stabilise certain macroeconomic indicators and attracted foreign investor attention.

However, critics of the government argue that some of these policies have contributed to high inflation and the increased cost of living for many Nigerians. Despite this, APC figures say the ruling party remains united and prepared to contest the next election with Tinubu as its standard-bearer.

All Nigerian presidents are limited to two four-year terms, meaning this endorsement positions Tinubu to complete his second and final term if he wins in 2027.
