Ho West MP, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has vowed that he will not seek re-election if the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill fails to be passed and assented to.
Appearing on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, Mr. Bedzrah stated that his decision is grounded in moral conviction rather than politics.
“If it’s not assented to, I will not return to Parliament,” he declared firmly.
“This is a live studio, and I’m saying it openly. I’ve told my colleagues, I’ve told everyone—if the bill isn’t passed and signed into law, I won’t come back. What would be the point? If I lack moral principles to stand for future generations, then what am I really doing?” he questioned.
He emphasized that his political life and personal values are deeply connected to defending the bill, which aims to criminalize LGBTQ activities and promote what its proponents describe as “proper human sexual rights and family values.”
“That’s my life’s purpose,” he added. “Those who know me understand that I didn’t enter Parliament just to hold a position. It’s about standing by what I believe in.”
